Hello, I'm new to coin collecting and picked up this 1887 Morgan dollar. what's your opinion on the grade? Value? Is is worth having this coin certified/graded? Thank you!

What VAM is it? It looks like an AU coin. Check and see if it matches one of these 2 VAMs http://www.vamworld.com/1887-P+VAM-3A
http://www.vamworld.com/1887-P+VAM-14A.

Otherwise try and match it up with one of these, it looks like a near date http://www.vamworld.com/1887-P+Obverses. It will help determine the value knowing what VAM it is.

I also had the first reaction that it was an AU coin, but (and this my be just an issue of a low resolution image) the eagle's breast looks pretty smooth to me, so it might slip down into the XF range.

For some reason the link to the VAM 14A and the link to the 1887-P Obv. does not take you to the page, it requests a login. That has never happened before. I am going to try and link to them again. I hope it works this time.
