I was about to sit back at my desk at work after walking back from Subway and noticed a really shiny dime amongst my change.

I've posted a short clip on YouTube of me moving the dime around in the light for you to see.

Can anyone tell me if it's a proof or not?

if it has a small "S" to the right of FDR's Chin than it is a proof.

Edit:
After watching the video I see that the Mint mark is "D" so unfortunately it is not a proof however it is in really good condition.

No, the proof would be an S mint mark.

Sadly no. It still does kind of look like it is a proof though.

Darn. Got my hopes up for nothing.

I just read something over the weekend too that said that proofs came from the San Fran mint so I should have known.

Thanks for the feedback!

Well, not all proofs have an "S" mintmark. If you have proofs from before 1968 they were made at the Philly mint.

Not trying to be mean but you can pick a proof dime up for like 2 dollars on ebay.
So if you wanted one you should check it out. Just don't buy too many proof coins.

There's a lot of coins I can pick up for a couple bucks on ebay. The thrill was finding it my pocket change.

That's still a nice roosie, that'd be upgrading my 2003 d in my circulated set at least...if not go into a 2x2 for safe keeping for my uncirculated Roosevelt dime set once I get around to it.

Unfortunately, It is not a proof dime and never was. But I can understand how & why you had questioned it at the time. I've done that countless times in the past when I was still a novice at collecting coins. May next time you'll get lucky! Good luck...

That's a beaut.

I'd be checking out local banks and see if they have any fresh rolls of dimes.

It might be too late though. That one has probably been in circulation a couple weeks.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Well that's right too. It's awesome to find silver or proof coins that someone spent and get them for face value.

Very cool find! Although not a "S" proof mint mark, I have also noticed that I see close to AU or proof-like Roosevelt dimes often, more so than other coin types. There is just something about current year dimes in circulation with a great shine for a period of time. This is certainly an inexpensive way to build a proof-like collection.
