http://www.ebay.com/itm/Choice-BU-B...p=true&rt=ncI see there is tape, but the tape looks old. How hard would it be to pick apart the end, search the coins, and then reassemble it? Probably not too hard right? the toned ends look good, but am assuming those could be easily put back in place. Those ends do look pretty tight though. Thoughts?

to me it looks to have cracked opened and the tape is new even tape a few years old would be yellowish or tinted also the taped side coin is on the side not as exposed to oxygen note the coloring is not the same as exposed one on the other end.

I would not touch it. Probably silver on the ends, and if your lucky 1 or 2 more mixed in.

I'm a skeptic - wrapper looks old but I have old wrappers. As others have noted, with some practice and materials, I'm sure folks can make convincing looking rolls. Seller reputation might help seal a deal, but not worth it to me.
What are you looking to do?

I want to save them as 'unopened and unsearched,' to possibly sell them (or search them) in the future but there is probably no way to do this with ebay sellers because in order to verify I didn't get scammed would have to open the roll and look at every coin.

Hi Ed - I saw your other post just after posting you. Yeah - could get tricky buying a roll today to find out 10 years from now that you were duped. "Unsearched" is such a tricky term I think. Under what conditions could 'unsearched' rolled quarters/dimes from the early 60s survive unmolested until today? A lost bank box or hoarders from the 60s who waited until now? Or a relative who inherited the rolls and wants to cash in? Coin shops? Possible I guess, but how can it be authenticated? You're asking the right crowd - some here may have that kind of experience. I'm curious to hear their answers. Best of luck on your endeavor.

I think it was resealed. Look at the paper closest to the coin, its a bright green. The rest if the roll looks dusty and old.
On any roll, there is about no guarantees that anything good will come of it. It depends on the manufacturing and path of the coin from the mint and eventually into your hands. no one ever knows how many times a coin can be re rolled, even if it came from a federal reserve. Coins could easily have been circulated searched, turned back into a bank, re-rolled and circulated once again. Its probably best to simply buy singles and put together what your looking to complete.
The tape on the roll is relatively new. If he would have used some "Dolla Tree" yeller tape he may have made a mint off the questionable item.

I wouldn't trust ebay. I've been ripped off a few times.

vermontensium, so true but some old wrappers can make you think, I got just bought a few rolls off ebay from the State of Iowa Treasury lost and found. That I assume that would be already searched also. But sometimes you take a risk assuming most only search for key dates and semi key dates not all the other goodies like errors and variations, rpm, DDO etc... If user sells any key dates, semi or errors coins then you got your answer. Its not hard to get huge case 30 year old shot gun wrappers and and machine to seal them. I once found a 1922 weak d in a zip lock bag that had been picked through already. Also note he sells rolls unwrapped "Choice BU Roll of 50 1955 S Roosevelt dimes 90% Silver" which had to come from some where.. but he has key date sold individual for high price..

Thanks for all the fast responses. The wealth of knowledge on this forum is awesome. If I was to take a chance 'once,' on one of these rolls, would probably weigh it to verify if the roll was at least silver. Will probably stick to APMEX and Provident in the future.

If they're NOT "50 Choice BU 1964 D Roosevelt dimes", the seller has left themselves open to an ebay neg/dispute. So ask yourself this simple question: how does the seller know that every coin in this roll is a "Choice BU 1964 D Roosevelt dime" if he hasn't busted it open and looked? What, he's got x-ray vision or something?

I also am skeptical of ebay, I have bought some UNSEARCHED rolls on there. I did however get one for $6.00, not a real flashy ad, and it had (16) 1915 D wheat, GEM Quality. I sold 2 for $30 each, and saved the best for me. So there are legit ones available, if your lucky enough to find them.
