I'm having a difficult time on grading this coin. Seems to be at least AU50 but I'm thinking it may be higher grade. Just want to know other people's opinions on it. If it looks cleaned. I'd like to know that too. Thanks a lot. -Shane Edited by Shadowsonic2004 03/12/2014 10:25 am

If it's AU, it's at the upper end. The fields look a bit "splotchy" in your photos, so I wonder if it hasn't been (over)dipped at some point, so it might get a "details" annotation. Not trying to run it down, overall that's a pretty good example of a low mintage Morgan.

I agree that it's at least upper end AU and appears to be a fairly early strike off what ever die pair it is as the fields look like they are PL. The thing that bothers me is the indifference in appearance between the obverse fields and features, like it may have been cleaned at some point. Could it just be the photo or is it maybe a scanned image? Could it be a VAM4? I think I see the die marker on the mint mark and this die variety is known in PL and DMPL conditon. http://www.vamworld.com/1895-S+VAM-4

I had the same concerns about it being cleaned too. I'm not sure if it was a scan or picture. I was interested in buying the coin and that's the photos that were provided. I just wanted to know what numbers to have my offer go from. Cleaned coins is pretty much the reason why I don't buy coins not graded by pcgs, ngc, anacs. This one just looked nice and was rarer in the grade it's at. So I guess my offer will be what I feel an AU-Cleaned 95S would be. Which is just $1000. $550 off what he was asking. Thanks guys.

High end AU that probably needs professional conservation and stabbing to max your return. Looks like a nice coin.

That's really unusual. It appears somewhat prooflike, but most prooflikes are frosty on the face and prooflike in the field. I'm leaning towards AU-55. I can't tell if it's PL or Cleaned.... Neat coin, though.

Dave700x--I didn't end up making an offer. Wasn't intereted in a cleaned, ungraded one. If it wasn't cleaned then I would of made an offer. Census was though it was cleaned. Sorry for the late update and thanks for the help.

Coin has been heavily polished. I'm putting it at AU-55 Details.
