I'm really beginning to appreciate how the Coin Community forum operates. Good folks helping each other out, and generally very polite in doing so.
I just sure wish there was some specific accommodation for the collector of Mexican coinage (and currency, for tht matter) even if it was simply an additional category under the World Coins Forum heading, like the existing one for UK coins. I know it'd be ultimately chaos if every time somebody asked, another section was created, so I'm not supposing that it'll happen, but I just wanted to suggest the possibility. Colligo ergo sum

Always willing to listen to suggestions. Here's our thinking on the concept of additional forums:
First and foremost, do we dilute the quality of the experience of the total membership by compartmentalizing a given specialty? People don't necessarily drill down to specialized subfora unless they have a hard interest in the subject. Therefore, in a dedicated subforum you're going to lose the casual observer who might find inspiration for a new direction in a "Main Forum" thread they happen across. And since our Job One purpose at CCF is to encourage and develop the new collector, we hold this exposure to new ideas as a very high priority.
Second, is there a self-sustaining interest base? It does the specialist no good to be a cricket, chirping in an empty room. You'd need enough interest to generate ongoing and vibrant discussions; otherwise, the forum's purpose is defeated.
The best indicator for us to consider a new subforum is the quantity of topic-specific posts in a more generalized forum. That's the reason the Precious Metals forum came to be; it sold itself due to participation indicating there was a "critical mass" of specialists.
We're prepared to be surprised, but expect us to be very reluctant to introduce much more granularity here.

Interesting. I never realized that hardly any mention of Mexican coinage. Possibly on World Coin forum but not a specific sub forum. There are those from Australia, Canada, England but not Mexico. Also, many people from Canada use the Main Forum. Naturally there could be forums for every country on Earth but I wonder how many posts there would be from Iran, Iceland, Peru, etc. It is odd that so few posts about Mexican coins since there are so many Mexicans in the USA now. I wonder if there are so few Mexican coin collectors.

I realized this morning that my original title for this thread had been ambiguous - I didn't mean coin collectors of Mexican nationality, but rather collectors of Mexican coins.
It's a really interesting field, particularly if you take into account all the colonial output of the Mexico City mint (the oldest in the Americas, it started operating in 1536), the consequent shipwreck treasures, the lore of pirate "pieces of eight", and the importance of this coinage in international trade (especially in China, but also as a substitute specie in Great Britain).
I recently joined the U.S. Mexican Numismatic Association, which has several hundred members and puts out an excellent, full color journal. So in the coin collecting universe, it's a niche, but apparently an expanding one. Certainly here in Arizona, any show you go to will have multiple vendors who specialize in this material.

We might consider something like that if the World Coin forum were so busy it was impossible for anyone to find anything. Right now, it isn't.

Lucky Cuss, there was a post about Hacienda coins that sparked my interest. The history was amazing. Hardly any follow up. Maybe you could start a thread telling us what you know. I know I'm interested.

I too, am an avid collector of Mexican coinage. Mostly modern, but also 20th century. Thanks to Swamperbob, colonialjohn and realeswatcher, I have developed a HUGE interest in 18th and 19th century coins minted in Mexico or based on 8 reales.
Unfortunately the are very few of us, certainly not enough to maintain a subforum. But like Ddave has mentioned, people are not inclined to enter a separate forum, yet as they peruse the world forum, they will see an interesting topic having to do with Mexican coins, and are much more likely to join in to the topic. Thus fueling more interest and passion for a subject we already know is rife with history and incredibly beautiful coins.

My single favorite coin of all time is the 1921 Centennial Dos Pesos - were it up to me, I'd create a subforum all its' own just for that one coin.

Lucky Cuss Join us on the world coin forum here at CCF, there are lots of posts regarding Mexican coinage from the early Spanish Colonial through the modern. Swamperbob has been teaching a college level class in Counterfeit Detection for years there and members have posted some great coins and brought up some great concepts. We're happy to have you.
