Here is an example of the 1836 reeded edge half dollar. This issue was struck using the newly installed close collar steam-driven press, which impressed the coin with a reeded edge, instead of the lettered edge used before. The number of half dollar struck with the new press was small, but certainly larger than the commonly quoted number of 1200. From what I have read, the actual number was quite a bit higher, with 5000 seeming plausible. I would be glad to have your comments and opinions on this coin. How would you grade it, and would it grade cleanly given the edge knock which can be seen on the reverse?

VF-25, not sure the bump would give it a details grade, my guess not.

Thank you all for your input. Any more opinions on whether the edge bump would keep this coin from grading cleanly?

Imo, the rim bump is minor so I don't think it would affect the grade.
Once it is encased in plastic I doubt the bump will be noticeable unless one is really, really looking closely at it.
