hello all.new here so please bear with me.the question I have is this.i spoke with my nephew today,he had just purchased a new roll of State Quarters from the bank,one of the quarters is blank on both sides.it is from a denver mint roll.i will post a picture of the coin in the next day or two,is this a common error?any help is greatly appreciated.~~~ANDY

Welcome - you'll find a ton of knowledge filled people here. I'm fairly new here, but I would say your nephew found a planchet. It's the blank 'slug' before it gets pressed and becomes a coin as we know them. I don't think it is very common. These are my thoughts. I'm sure someone else with more knowledge will answer soon as well.


PS - You will nearly always get more responses when you post pictures so the sooner you get those up, the more info you'll get back.

It is a true us mint error. It is called a blank planchet error, It is worth 5 bucks at the most.

I think it would be worth more if only one side was blank, since then it would be identified with one specific issue. With both sides blank, it's just another blank quarter planchet. Still a cool find, and beats the heck out of a poke with stick! :o)
