I found this pinback made from a Charles X 5F piece on ebay for less than melt, so what the heck

Not-Your-Garden-Variety-5f

Someone has cut the bust free of the coin and raised it off the surface 1 mm, and attached it by 4 posts, then gilded or bronzed it, then mounted curly wire around the edge and attached it to the pinback base.

The coin has the proper edge inscription, so it is probably genuine. I'm trying to figure out what occasion it would be appropriate to wear it for....maybe going to Les Miserables...

WOW! That's wild. Musta been some sort of major fan of the French monarchy, at least the end of the Bourbon dynasty (since they chose Charles here over Louis-Philippe!)

Making a pin back featuring one of the most hated French monarchs, using a peach lacquered disc for a mount, is bizarre. Maybe dada or surrealist revival, or a Legitimist rally. The bust appears to float over the remains of the coin.
