I have started searching about 1800 Eisenhower dollars and thought it would be fun to post some data of what I find. I will try to keep the data updated as I continue searching. I have not seen any comparative data to see if my results are typical or not. 1972 D HAIR LIP?
Some thing very new to me.
Oh boy. Oh dear.
Is 1972 D the only date for Hair lips?

Domain555-1972D is the only ones I have found so far, but I have not gotten into 1973 and beyond yet. I would think since it is a die clash rather than something specific to a specific die, they might be found on other dates as well sort of like the "Inverted U" that I have found on two different dates so far. Maybe some of the experts will lend some light.

Maybe I am DUMPING some collectible IKES? Oh NO ! Feel sure I just dumped a well to grade Hair lip in the last 500 batch. Thought it was a DING. Oh well.... |

Gonna have to sit and watch on this one. I have not gone through NEARLY that many Ikes. But I DID just find another hair lip last night. So that is 2 out of 17 72D's. Wait, I never checked the one in the Dansco.... OK, nope. So 2 out of 18. Darn it. I haven't even looked at the ones in my dads old 2x2 box... OK, no 72Ds there. LOL I am pretty sure that is it now. Domain, this is what a hair lip looks like. And I could swear I saw something on the Ike Group page that showed 71D as well.  |

cladking-here is the "Inverted U". It is a clash from the first "U" in UNUM on the reverse that shows to the right of WE and to the left of Ikes neck.   |

Here is some updated info from my Ike search (total coins so far 539). 1971D Searched 157 Inverted 'U' 1 Hairlip 1 Talon Head 18 Volunteer 2 FEV 3 Jawline 3 1972 Searched 46 Earth Type 1 19 Earth Type 2 Earth Type 3 27 1972D Searched 89 Hairlip 3 Inverted you 1 Moonline 7 Peg Leg (straight) 5 1976 Searched 126 Type 1 22 Type 2 104 1976D Searched 121 Type 1 65 Type 2 56 I have put a few in my look-at-again pile (which I have done multiple times) with things I cannot identify yet. One example is shown below. It is on a 1976D. Under the chin and to the right of WE there is a crater that looks to be some kind of abraiding. I have found this on two coins so far. I haven't found an explanation as of yet, but will spend more time on it later. I have also found what appears to be a hairlip on a 1971D but have not found any reference to the 71D having such a clash. Still being a real novice at this, it would seem that this kind of clash might be common on all Ikes, but I still have to do some more research. Any comments from the experts on this would be much appreciated. Well, after a little more looking, I have found that 1971D's in fact display hairlips. Also have found a few that are doubled, unfortunately to my untrained eye, they appear to be MD. Thats all for tonight. Still have about 1300 to go.   Edited by jprine
