So I decided to go down to my local pawn shop to get some Mercury dimes for my collection, and I ended up with a pretty nice score. Merc: 19x face 1916 (new) 1917 (new) 1918-D x2 (new)Upon closer inspection, the one I thought was an S was actually another D 1923 (new) 1927 (thought I needed it but I already had one) Quarters: 19x face 1898-S 1934 Put in 2x2 after buying 3 Cent Nickel: $1.90 (was mixed in with dimes, got passed off as a dime) 1865 Half Dime: $10 1858

At less than $0.50 over melt and you filled a hole in your collection, nice deal on the Mercs!
<$5 for the Barber? Sweet! Those, in the same condition, run >$10 each around here.

congrats, great score and now they will go to a collector who will care for them. I do wonder what the pawn store paid for them!

Thanks guys. I really like going to pawn shops since they mostly care about metal content and not numismatic value. Makes for great bargains at the junk silver bins!

Nice score! Went into a pawn shop in my area a few days ago and they didn't have any coins, bullion, or much of anything really. All they had was used electronics, cheap imitation jewelry/watches, and tons of musical instruments. I ended up purchasing one dvd for $1.50. They said that they only buy precious metals/coins and don't sell them. When they purchase coins/bullion they send them straight off to corporate.

Nice pickups for a good price. The only pawn shop close to me doesn't sell any silver except bullion, mint sets, and silver dollars. He said he saves the junk silver until prices are at least $25 an ounce.
