I have another question for everyone as I go about learning to grade and spot possibly cleaned US coins.

I saw this ebay auction for a proof 1890 Seated Liberty quarter. (I did not bid on this coin.) The reverse looks good to me, but are those faint hairlines on the upper left side of the obverse?

It's hard to tell with the photos.

Thanks for helping me what to look for on coins.

Any proof that isn't slabbed treat as unc or au and bid accordingly. The front of this is not proof quality (IMO) - not sure about cleaning - though that wouldn't surprise me.

Looks like this seller is a crook. Coin just sold for $282.01, but, he immediately relisted.

My guess is the final bid was a shill.
