I have a 1859 Canadian large cent, trying to determine if it is brass

weight is 4.055 grams
measurement: 25.75mm

Any help would be great.

A brass can would be extremely rare. Worth tens of thousands of dollars if genuine. Pictures would be great but in all likelihood it's a counterfeit or replica.

Should weigh 4.54 grams, since both bronze and brass are of similar density there is no way you can determine composition by weight alone.
Diameter should be 1 inch.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I've read the brass ones are the same dimension as mine where the bronze ones were 25.4 mm

Where did you read that?
They are struck from the same dies and thus the same diameter.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I'm no expert but .35 of a MM difference would be within tolerances, and not noteable especially if the coins have seen any sort of circulation.

a well respected member here has access to high tech device that can determine metal composition.
IF he offers to zap it for you take him up on the offer. (you will need to get to 50 forum posts to be able to contact him via this site)

Even if you had pictures, it's almost impossible to capture the exact true color of the coin for us to see. I think it's one of those things you just have to show fellow collectors as you run into them and get a general consensus.
