So let me get this straight. Now people that sell on ebay are not allowed to talk up their coins. Tell you what. Why dont all of you come up with a set of guidelines so that us poor ebay sellers dont do something that offends the sensibilities.

Crap is crap and won't sell whether you post it for two or three weeks or ten years!

Id be careful throwing around the word crap on low grade coins. Ones persons crap is what someone else collects or all they can afford. It serves its purpose and theres a market for it, or it can simply be people unloading things they no longer want.

Just remember theres always someone else with a lot more money than you that would consider what you think are nice coins to be crap.

I dont understand the logic at all of excluding sellers just because some their inventory isn't "good enough". Thats like saying you wont shop at Walmart because they have 99 cent items. You dont avoid the store because they sell something you arent interested in, you just avoid that part of the store.

basebal21 I totally agree with what you just said, so true. I buy 'crap' coins just so I can have a version of a certain coin, if I had the money I'd buy high grade ones.

Sometimes when I'm having a bad day, I think about how trivial my bad day is compared to someone having a real bad day-my problems are nothing compared to some unfortunate people in this world. May seem off topic-but it holds the same message.

you could do this too put a lower grade to suck the buyer in. I bought this for $100 with shipping which is a great deal but I stumble across many coins graded 2 grades down and priced at retail for the actual grade. lets face it ebay is a buyer beware situation and you get burned once and learn or you continue to be taken advantage of. I get annoyed when I put a fair grade and say my opinion grade for yourself an someone reports and down it comes and the next guy does what your saying and gets away with it.

All respect to the OP. I hear ya.

IMO the deck is stacked against honest ebay sellers. I think they generally get a bad rap.

I have bought a lot of coins on ebay. I look past the hype (where it exists) and focus on the coin, feedback rating, and return policy.

Buyer beware, and not just on ebay.

I put all pertinent info usually in my title. I consider myself a fairly decent photographer. If you don't have decent, clear pictures of both sides..don't even bother selling your coin anywhere online.
Just be honest and describe it to the best, most truthful of what the coin is. That's it.
I never use catch phrases like PQ+++ or whatever. If that's your thing, fine.

As far as low grade, problem coins, I have no problem with those listed as long as again, clear photos and an accurate description of noted problems.
Heck, I buy and sell problem coins once in awhile.

OK, I agree - crap is a pretty poor choice of words so let me rephrase that. Coins with plain honest wear that are in otherwise good condition wouldn't fall under that description. I have quite a few good looking low grade pieces like that in my own collection, mainly key dates that I could never afford in high grades.

What I am talking about are coins that are so damaged, corroded, banged up or otherwise mutilated that they are just plain unsightly - i.e. coins in the sort of condition that just won't sell.

Always offer a return policy and don't complain, moan and groan when a coin is returned.

Wrong. If I post accurate clear pics and describe the coin properly, darn right I am going to have a fit if it gets returned. I have only ever once returned a coin I bought on ebay, and that was a case of the seller clearly altering the photo to hide graffiti. This whole concept of buy a coin and return it for no reason other than I just don't like the look of it in hand is bunk. This is exactly the reason I do not offer returns on anything over 20 bucks.

You say look at it from the buyers perspective. Guess what? I AM a buyer. How about you look at it from a sellers perspective eh? I don't just do this for kicks. I sell to make extra money. I end up losing money when I get bunk returns like that.

And comparing it to the practices of hi end dealers that have review periods and all that jazz is a ridiculous stretch. Completely different animal.

2. Don't call coins that aren't KEY DATEs key date!

3. Post clear, large pictures of BOTH sides of a coin.

Ummmm, really? Those are pretty much all covered under dont lie. So obviously those things go without saying.

4. If you aren't a professional photographer bolster photos with a detailed description of anything that is out of the ordinary.

OK, at what point do my photos require a molecular diagnostic? I can't imagine any kind of flaws that my pics dont show and my descriptions cover that dont fall under the tell the truth thing.

6. If you're offering worn out, low grade, problem or filler coins that don't sell after two or three times listed, give up on those kinds of items!

Which is it? Those are two radically different statements there.

So, still, I am missing the validity of the original post.

If a seller does not accept returns on his/her items, does that really mean the buyer has no choice but to keep the item? I was under the impression that ebay sides with the buyer no matter what- the ebay money back guarantee? Am I wrong on this?

No, you are right. There are 2 rules at ebay. 1) The customer is always right. 2) In case the customer's wrong, see rule #1.

- This has always seemed like the case to me. It also states in ebay's selling policy that the seller is responsible for the item until it reaches the buyer. That means that no matter what UPS/USPS does to that package after it leaves the seller's hands, it's the seller's fault if the package is damaged. I have been on the receiving end of this before. Needless to say, I make sure to pack all of my items extremely well to prevent potential problems.

On the other hand, I've run into a couple of "jerk" sellers on ebay this past week. I'm actually glad this policy can protect buyers from these clowns. I guess that is the nature of the beast. It can protect the buyer, but it can also put the seller at a disadvantage. The latter happens all too often.

All of you sellers that are on this forum. Have to admit that the bay would be a lot better if there was some way to get rid of the nutjob sellers that are on there.
I don't have a problem with someone makeing profit on his/her product. But when someone can use fraud to do it thats just not right. With that said I am not implying that anyone on here does that.
