Well I have been doing some soul searching and I have decided that I am no longer pursuing my coin collection. I have been sitting on it for over a year and have done nothing with it. I have lost interest and with so many displeasures I have with what is being produced now it is just more of a turn-off. I have already busted a lot of coins out of their holders, wrapped them up and cashed them in at the bank....mainly BU halves and dollars and nickels, and dimes...most of which were from mint sets. I may keep the Statehood Quarters since they are all BU but then I still might cash them in with the ATB coins...nearly $50 face value right there. And will most likely sell off what little silver I have. I will still pull things out of my change and into a jar but that's about it. As for my Canadian coins, I am not sure what to do with those yet...right now I just read Mint News Blog and here regularly just to know what is being offered even though I will not likely buy anything.

Quote: Leaving the Hobby of Coins Wow, The Force, I feel sorry for you but, if your no longer interested in the hobby I suppose it is the only thing to do. I can't see ourselves selling our collection but, one never knows what the future may bring. Good luck.

TheForce - hate so see someone leave the hobby, but I get what you're saying...why not put it away for a while and do some soul searching about it in 6 months or a year. I find from time to time I have to back away because I overload...I start dreaming about it LOL...that's when I know I need a break...something is outta balance. You've been a member here since 2005 that's a long time...maybe in 6 months something will stand out to you, or maybe you'll find interest in a different facet of the hobby. Just thinking out loud.

I have been collecting on and off since I was 13. Lately its been more off than on. I think its time to hang it up. Like I said, it's been well over a year since I have really done anything with my collection. It just sits there in the darkness on my closet. If I see something that catches my fancy I might buy it. Back in the day coin collecting was easier with having smaller and cheaper sets. Now the prices are over $30 for a set with a bunch of coins I'm not interested in. And the sets take up too much space. It's just a whole bunch of things really.

Good suggestions. Would also suggest letting them sit for a while. Please don't make any hasty decisions. Coin Collecting is a labor of love anyway. The winter has been so long here, I've lost interest in my hobbies too.

If modern US coins have you jaded, I suggest moving into the dark side (foreign coins), perhaps start an OFEC set.

Instead of just cashing in for FV, I'm sure there's some on CCF which may potentially give you a little premium on the stuff you're getting rid of. or ebay, or something. Collections getting cashed in for FV make me sad. Unless that's simply the circle of life. I could see a bank teller holding them for her favorite customer becase "someone needed money and cashed in their collection" and the collection continues. I could further see a thread on CCF with someone happen about their big pickup at the bank and showing pics.

TheForce, let me say ,"bummer." When I first joined CCF your name kept popping up with some great post. I learned a lot from them. Not sure how old you are but, things change in life. There has been a number of times I wished I held onto stuff that bite me in the behind later. Life is a journey.

I'm also sorry to hear that you have abandoned ship, TheForce, but I also have had to quit recently. As 'trent' stated, it's too bad you haven't tried to get at least a few extra bucks while getting rid of some of your collection.
I had a bad medical problem in February and now can no longer work (which means no income) and all the money I had in the bank is already all gone. I really enjoyed the 'hunt' for the coins I searched for over the past few years. I hope I don't have to dispose of the coins I already have; but one never knows!

Quote: I have been sitting on it for over a year and have done nothing with it. What exactly was your intention with your collection? Seems you're burned out from having to collect every single series in existence, but really it's not like that. You have the choice to collect whatever you want and you don't have to kneel to the whims of any mint and their offerings. No one will judge you for not collecting the legal tender holographic glow in the dark niobium and glass coin with Swarovski elements and bumblebees. Don't let other people tell you what to enjoy and how.

Sorry to hear about your decision.
With an eye toward the possibility that you might not see things the way you're seeing them right now at some future time (2, 5, 10 years?)... Why not just put your present collection--as is--into "dead storage" in the back of some little-used closet? You might be glad you did some time in the future and if not, you could end up leaving something for your heirs to bicker and squabble over. That's always good for "one last laugh."

Sad to see a collector go.....I would sit and think on it as well. If your mind is made up and you do decide to sell, don't release them to the banks at face value. As a few have said, I'm sure the fine folks here would be willing to help out......i know I'd be interested in the Canadian and the Silver.

I have gone through several different times of collecting and then let the hobby go on hold for several years and come back to it again. I collected from approximately 1986-1994, 1998-2001, 2004-2007, and just picked back up in Fall 2013. Other interests and just life events sometimes take priority but I always come back to it. If you don't need the money that is tied up in the coins, it isn't a bad idea to let them sit in the closet for a while. That is what I did for the past several years, and I am glad I didn't sell them all off. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you do!

It's bad enough when we loose a valued member but when it's a Michigander .Why not put the hobby on the back burner for awhile,6 months or even a year? If you (need) to get rid of some coins it would nice to offer some to CCF members.I hope to see you return to CCF and to the hobby in general.Maybe you could even get one or two newbies to join the hobby and CCF to take your place for now ,just an idea.
