I found a dime today that has a raised area below the neckline of the bust, above the mint mark. It doesn't look like PMD, doubling, and I've looked at previous posts of dimes that showed the overlapped back and front and it doesn't look to me like there was anything in this shape to be a clash mark. Any ideas on what this might be?

Looks like you've found a MAD coin. The hammer die is adjustable and the anvil one is stationary. When the adjustable one is not in alignment with the stationary, a slight misalignment is noticed on one side of the coin. The reverse is normal. If the both sides are off center, you have an off center coin.

These become collectable when the devices fall over the edge of the coin. Otherwise they are just common.
This one is close, but the devices are not falling over the edge:

Thanks Richard. Informative as always.
I'm a little confused. I wasn't talking about the rim. I was talking about the raised area between the mint mark and the neckline of the bust in the second photo. Was that what you were referring to also?

No. But taking a second look it appear to be raise there. The glare sometimes covers what we ant to show and I missed it. It is from a heavy die polishing to cover a clash/clashes.

The area may have had a strong clash mark on the field on the obverse die and localized polishing may have removed part of the field, making all coins struck after this event have the same raised area. Not a premium, but always interesting to know what happened.
