There is a grading section in this forum, maybe a moderator will move it there. I see your new to the forum... Welcome ! Lighting is a bit low to see details of the Eagles Feathers on the Reverse and the chatter on the cheek of Miss Liberty on the Obverse. With all new Morgan dollar purchases that arrive; 1. I weigh the coin to ensure the weight is right. 2. I use a magnet and ensure the Morgan doesn't stick to it. Silver in non-Metallic 3. I Take the coin in hand with index finger and thumb make a circular motion with the coin. For Uncirculated Morgans you should see a cart-wheel style luster circle go all/ most of the way around the coin. With what I can see of the coin, it may be an UNC Morgan, maybe a MS-63, due to the chatter I can see on the Obverse. Common date Brillant Uncirculated, non-graded Silver Morgan dollars typically run around 50.00 and up. So, yes, its not a bad deal for a Classic coin that was minted about 130 years ago.

I wouldn't bother getting this coin graded. The added value of having the coin graded would not be more than the grading costs.

The price paid seems to be in line with the apparent grade. I'd say you did alright. As far as the VAM number for this particular Morgan, you'll need to do some research on your own or post a good close-up of the mint mark for openers. I can't make out the O/O configuration. Your coin is a far date position and there are 10 different listings for O/O. http://www.vamworld.com/1884-O+...043;Positionand I'll add to CCF

I added a pic of the mint mark, also a curious looking "M" on the ribbon to the right of it

It most closely resembles VAM10. It would have a die gouge on the star after the word "dollar" if in fact VAM10. http://www.vamworld.com/1884-O+VAM-10 The M on the ribbon is the designer's initial, George Morgan.
