quote: HI folks... thought I would drop in and say hello, for those who do not know me my name is Jon Lerner president of Scarsdale Coin and creator and CFO of Coinfest....that's Chief Fun Officer.... FYI my partner in the Coinfest shindig is Laura Sperber of Legend Numismatics.... Since we both attend so many coin shows per year and no what is good and bad about each we wanted to set up a show that captures true collecting! If you have young ones...bring them along....we have YN programs hosted by Larry Gentile (he's great with kids) plus Sun afternoon a special magician who is as good if not better than Chris Angel and not scary! Have your better half complaining about you spending time at coinshows.... The NY metro area has great things for your other half to keep busy.... so mark your calander ... fly, drive, train in and have a great time!
PS: Just Carl... its all FREE... FREE PARKING...FREE TO GET IN...IN FACT 1ST 100 PEOPLE SAT GET A FREE MORGAN/PEACE SILVER DOLLAR....1ST 100 PEOPLE SUN GET A FREE RedBook....
OK, OK so you noticed I'm cheap. Yes I like FREE, FREE, FREE. Now your making me made that I live so far away. I would have been the first one in the door for all that FREE stuff. Ever see the news about the nuts here in Chicago that line up for days for a stupid book? Same with our Chicago Cubs tickets and they never go anywhere. So what is holding you up from having a coin show in a better place like Chicago? We could use a spark of newness. Oh yeah, WELCOME HERE.

Welcome, Jon. Nice to see you here. You'll see me at Coinfest.
I'm still trying to talk myself into buying that FE we talked about in Baltimore - it's a fair deal, but it would be the most I've ever spent on a single coin. :shudder:

After attending the ANA Convention in Denver last year, I vowed to try and take in as many future shows as I can. Unfortunately, I have not been able to put together the funds to attend the one mentioned in this thread, or the annual ANA Convention, held this year in Miklwaukee. I am happy for those who do attend. These shows provide great experiences.

Gee thanks for all the positive posts, suggestions, etc... you sure know how to make someone feel very welcome to the forum!! I am sure several area's could use a good show.... The NY metro area has suffered for several reasons.... for example NY charges tax on coins... by moving the show slightly North...just over the border to Greenwich CT we avoid the whole issue of tax for dealers... Another factor was the huge cost associated with being in NY City.... hotel rooms in the city can range from $200-$400 a night... thats a lot of money for anyone to spend..... we have hotels that range from $49 and up including my favorite the Westin with a special $99 rate.... FOLKS have no fear we have a shuttle bus....yes Carl its FREE running from the Train Station, Westin, over to the Civic Center I must also give Kudo's to the Civic Center...out of many places that we tried to run a show from...the management there has been terrific and its a great spot to have a show.... If the show takes off... I could easily see several Coinfest type shows around the country..... and folks if you have any thoughts on making a show better....please pass them on to me... I'm listening.... you can say hI out at the ANA I have a table there under my coin company Scarsdale Coin (plenty of free candy at the booth) Oh by the way... I'm bursting to tell but sworn to secret for now...but there are still many more great big announcements about the show coming.... and I would also like to say thanks the many wonderful dealers who signed up right off the bat just as the idea was taking off... names you know like Stacks,Julian M. Leidman,Keystone Rare Coins,Augustin,Avena,John Hamrick,Leo J. Bellisro,Tony Terranova,Premium Numismatics,R.M. Smythe,Wayne Herndon Rare Coins,Andrew Lustig Rare Coins,Angel Dee's Coins and Collectibles,Teletrade,ICG,Sam Sloat Coins, Inc.,New World Rarties,Carter Numismatics,J. J. Van Grover, Ltd., Mid Atlantic Coin and too many others to list... I could rant all night, but hey I'll quit on a high note! Thanks, Jon

Yeah, Tighe The first coin show I ever went to was held in one of the big expensive hotels here in the city. I went to the site thecoinfest.com and it didn't say where exactly. I need details. Waldorf Hotel? Hilton? Central Park? LOL ...Hey, tell me where and when, I am sure to find it.

I noticed that coinfest has sold out all the dealer tables, so rooms could get scarce now at the hotels with the special coinfest rate. There is a continuous free shuttle between the Westin Hotel, the La Quinta hotel, the Stamford train station and the coinfest at Eastern Greenwich Civic Center. My wife and I are going check into the hotel and then ride the train from Stamford to Grand Central Terminal to see Manhattan on Friday night before the coin show opens on Saturday.

I think I'll check it out. It should be about an hour and a half drive for me and it has been a long time since I've made a show.
