How accurate do you think that VAMview Retail Guide is? I can never decide if the premium is worth it or if a coin is going to BU money and it's only XF (you know how ebay can be), does the VAM premium make up the difference?

That's what I'm a littly fuzzy on. Straight up value.

"Thanks for all the kind words, folks! I'm happy to see the WOW! VAMs set seems to be an enjoyable one."
Nice to see you found your way here.

As far as the VamView Retail Guide IMHO the prices are highly inflated. Again my opinion but I prefer to do my own pricing research based on auction results from the big auction houses. You get a much more accurate picture of what a coin is worth. If you decide to utilze the VV Retail Guide I would cut a lot of those prices by 50%.

Do your own research; you will become better informed and learn a lot along the way.

As far as VAMview is concerned, Bob(is that you Bob?) is correct concerning many of the prices. It's like any other price guide, for the most part. The prices listed are the absolute optimum retail, but, as a buyer, no one ever wants to pay tip-top dollar... for anything. HOWEVER, in the three years or so that I've been chasing the set this thread pertains to, I can tell you that there are several VAMs which I have only seen 1-2 examples of and 4 which I have never found (though one I was VERY fortunate to have gifted to me). I am in no way, shape or form a "dollar value" guy, but I will be quite curious to see (if they are all included) what the 2015 VAMview lists formerly unlisted WOW! VAMs at.

I have a dozen or more guide books on topics from baseball cards, comic books, movie posters and bayonets to firearms.
And there are only two types of entries.
1) I wish I could sell mine for that price. And...
2) I wish I could buy one for that price.
It isn't a guarantee, it's just a guide.
If you have two coins, and the guide says one is worth $100, and the other $1000, you know a bit more than you did without the guide.

"Bob(is that you Bob?)" Yes it is.
Buying the VAMVIEW guide for curiosity sake and a "relative idea" of pricing will provide you with some info. Nothing wrong with that; I have bought the VV guide before. It will provide you with some insight on pricing and possibly bring some varities to your attention that you were not aware of pricing on.
I will reiterate that if you want a much better idea of what a VAM is currently being valued at go do the research. It's not very time consuming to do a quick search on the major auction houses to see what they have been selling for most recently. Please remember the VV guide is based on "past sales". The prices in that guide are now "static". They had to stop gathering info at a finite point to finish the guide, publish it, and get it to press. VAM prices are not static. They constantly change based on peoples' whims, attitudes, numbers of varieties placed for sale, etc.
Here is a good example. Per VV retail guide a 1922 Peace VAM 2A (Ear Ring) in AU valued at $500 & AU58 valued at $700.
Recent Heritage Auction Sales: PGCS AU53 LDS(late die state most desireable) July 2013 FUN Show $293.75 with the juice. NGC AU53 LDS same date and show $258.50 NGC AU53 LDS April 6, 2014 $84 with the juice.
This is just 1 example. If you follow these prices yourself you can obtain a better idea of fluctuating prices and snag some good deals.

For anyone that might read this, that may have been on the fence about buying the WOW! VAMs book - Each copy now comes with a voucher good for 2 free coins graded by ANACs on their 15 day turn around tier!
