Found a weird raised worm-like portion on a 1949 Wheat cent. Not sure what it is or if it might be an error. (I outlined the raised portion on the second picture).

That is called progressive indirect design transfer. Also know as a ghost image from the obverse.

The occur on the VLDS (Very Late Die State) coins. So they are not a premium coin. They usually don't affect the grade, but I prefer the EDS coins myself.

Looks like the outline of Lincoln on the other side, probably is.
The coin may have been struck exceptionally hard to give it that effect.

I've got the same thing here:

Wierd-Wheat-Cent-Error?

Wierd-Wheat-Cent-Error?

It makes sense with the late die state: this is a 46 S and the 6 is extremely weak.

How is the ghost image different from a die clash, or is it?
