a real shame, that there has to be people that intentionally try to con, and tarnish the hobby. Check out the price!

I think so. They can be produced between two flat faced surfaces, proceeding in opposite directions, with the coin rolled in a horizontal position in between.
Reeded edges can be impressed by this method, or (mostly) removed. I have used a cheaper method: just file the reeding off, then finish with a fine emery paper, then lightly hammer to remove the fine file marks. The coin will end up being very slightly under weight. I have done this, just for fun, but it is really a waste of time.
It is all a con! The error if deliberate is with the seller, or if found from circulation, just plain does not know. If WE don't recognize these sorts of 'shed' jobs, that is incompetence. That is good justification for the existence of the CCF, so that we may educate ourselves.
It is the unknowing buyer (as always) that is suckered.
"Never give a sucker an even chance". That is extremely unfair and very dishonest, in my opinion.

That coin has been hanging around the 'bay for a while, so hopefully it never will sell.
Sel: Right on, my friend. Education is all our jobs, so that we greatly reduce the amount of times anyone gets stung.
Thanks to flinflon john for opening this thread.

the one I liked best was the wrong metal cent, nickle and dime. throw them on the stove burner and you get a golden cent and bluish nickle and dime. that one sold for.. I forget, but someone got ripped. (ps if you do this, wear goggles in case theres an air bubble and it blows up in your face.)

Pinch jobs are good exercise for the hands, much more effective than squeezing tennis balls...
