I should be acquiring 78 3CN (mainly F12-VF20) in the next week or so. I'm not looking at making a killing, but I will have a quantity of the very common dates in largely original, problem-free condition (there will be a few with scratches and the like). I'll have a bit invested in this material and can't sit on all of it. How would you recommend moving it? My initial thought is that the early, common stuff (1865-73, 81) won't sell well on ebay because buyers will want it for wholesale or worse. I will likely put some of the material on boards like this, however that base will easily become saturated fairly quickly. I apologize if this appears to be a "sales" post...it's not.

I think if you can get good pictures, you'll be surprised at what some of the common date, problem-free/original stuff will sell for on ebay. You may want to float a couple of trial balloons there. I'd keep the problem stuff together as a lot and move them as a "junk box" kind of buy.

Take your best of each date\Mintage and put them into a Whitman's folder, then place them on ebay or you could just pass them my way! If you have enough extras to start another book, do the same (I'd only be interested in the first round of the better coins). Just a thought!

Does Whitman even make a 3CN folder...I don't think so? The 3CN albums (Dansco/Littleton) would be too costly for this type of lower grade material, not to mention the additional shipping headache

I always thought Whitman or someone made a push-in folder for almost every coins type, if so that would be the way to go. I agree a Dansco type would be overkill.

The coin show circuit around here sucks to put it bluntly. Dealers here want everything 10% in back of bid no matter how nice the coins look. There might be a couple of dealers that are willing to pay full Bid-Ask but they also have to want the material. I do some wholesaling on occasion and it's brutal around here. I keep hearing how dealers complain that there's not a lot of problem free, original material around but I never hear that they are raising their Bid prices either.

How long can you keep them before you need to sell them? I think the longer you keep them the more you will get. You can always split them up as small groups and sell them like that?

You mentioned that you will have mostly coins in the F12-VF20 range, will you have any in better grades? I'd be interested in one of each date if they were EF-AU. That being said, I agree with Errorcoins about listing on ebay, & with Amazon99 that they will go up in value the longer you hold out.

Thanks for your support guys. I really didn't want to turn this into an advertisement, however, you're proving your point that I should definitely list them here as a first course of action. I think most of them will fall into the VF range. I don't believe thare are any that will fall much better than Choice VF.
I'm toying with putting some small sets together of the earlier dates and individually selling the rest. I guess I'm trying to figure out an efficient way of dealing with this lot without having to do a gazillion trips to the post office.

I like the small set ideal, all maybe close to the same grade. That would save on shipping charges also.
