I metal detect in the warm months but this winter I stared to look at coins. I think I have two error coins. Any help on these I greatly appreciate. A 1941 Is that a die crack under the Y in liberty? 1953 reverse bumps on left wheat? Sorry about the crappy pics. Also any value?
Sandy

The "bumps" on the 1953 are die chips and happen often as the die becomes over used. Larger die breaks could carry added value.

The 1941 is lamination, a defect in the planchet metal. Again; this is small larger ones can add a little value.

Welcome Sandy,

Metal detecting must be fun, nice finds... first one a minor lamination error and the second is die chips. The die chips that land on the wheat I keep and call them "bugs on wheat" they add small premium but my kids think they are just cool.

Sandy.

I would have said lamination on the first but couldn't really see the second picture to well.

The coin also suffered a heavy coin cleaning. You can see a lamination or die crack at 8:00 area. I can't tell for sure from the images. But a lamination usually flows in a straight line. This looks irregular and curved, so it may be a die crack.

Thanks all for the welcomes.
I did clean the coins,as I never get rid of any coin. Same with all the stuff I take out of the ground except the trash.
I will admit I have spent countless hours this winter looking at coins. Well this is the time of year in any cold regions to search whats left of any snow banks the plows have left. It's kind of the poor mans detecting without a detector...
Happy hunting

You shouldn't clean them. If you do they lose all collectible value. I metal detect also. I wonder if anyone has put together a set of Lincolns from detecting...
