I was going through a few thousand wheat pennys and came across a 46 and it is silver in color.... could it be on a nickle planchet? It doesn't stick to a magnet.. AND sadly the 92 Close AM I posted was stole out of my office lol the search for a new one has begun.

Just weigh the 46. If it's the same weight as any other it's just plated.

That was going to be my question. Did you just leave it laying around?

Never, ever leave your collectibles laying around in an office where others have access. That's what locking cabinets and locking desks are for. Not everybody is as honest as most of us are.

It can't be a nickel planchet as it won't fit into the cent collar. If the full rims are on it and nothing cut off, then it can't be a dime planchet. The thickness would be the first thing to look at. A nickel will be thicker than a cent and a dime is thinner than a cent. But they plated coins all the time to make it look like something it is not. Images would be a great help.
