Are the lines on this coin due to feed finger damage? I know gas can often appear in straight lines and are extremely common, but this doesn't appear to be due to gas. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

finger feeder damage, for certain. Kind of looks like a meteor shower going on in the background, doesn't it.
Fun find!

There is not much premium put on Feeder Finger Damage coins because they arent widely collected. Unless these were cataloged and with a collector base, I dont think there is any more of a premium for having the gauges go the other way.

The feeder fingers did beat up some dies pretty harshly and even the pieces with the most damage don't command much over a couple of dollars

Jayman931: I remembered that coin when I made my comment. I then edited it as the direction was the normal one. You might repost it. I didn't save it for my educational files. I've got 3045 on my image host and forgot to save that one.

The Feeder Finger Damage can be polished off. So the marks are just temporary. So the question of the day is:
What causes Feeder Finger Damage?

Jayman931: Thanks for the image. I would like to see an image that show more of the surface of the coin. That would be helpful.

I found one that is in the same direction, but figured out it was just die damage.

Question on your coin: Is the alignment correct on your coin, or is it rotated 180 degrees? That might explain something to me.

I just checked and unfortunately(maybe fortunately?) the alignment is correct. I have never found any coin with alignment that wasn't within mint tolerance.

Thanks. I was trying to figure out why the Feeder Finger Damage was in the wrong direction.
