I can't quite dismiss the idea from my mind that the seller himself or his employee may have done this, and thus avoid suspicion.

I also can't obviously see how a postal employee would guess that there would have been a banknote inside the envelope, unless X-ray detection was used.

Actually, it is illegal in Australia to send banknotes through the postal system. I have to admit however, I have sent banknotes to the 'States for payment of small amounts on trust, thus avoiding fees.
I do not know if it is illegal or not to send banknotes through the postal system within the 'States.

Perhaps in this case, it would have been better to package the note between two pieces of cardboard, then wrap in aluminum foil before sealing in an envelope or placing in a mailer bag. The note would then avoid X-ray detection, especially if the "100" has a metallic element to it, or there is a metallic thread embedded within the note.

It also helps if coins are inside a square shaped foil wrap for the same reason.

Who knows for sure....

But one thing sure is the owner ... and employee(s) knew it was in there.

Easy to spend ... easy to keep it ... to sell much later.

The OP has pasted this on another discussion board which is frequented by the seller. The seller is a very well-respected collector and dealer in the United States. The speculation that the seller or one of his employees had something to do with this is way off base.

Sel, is it really illegal to send banknotes to and through Australia? I should revise my business practices. Any link to said law\statute? I have to ask what is the logic in that? What are they trying to avert?
