Got this one for a decent price for the grade, but still very hard to crack out for my album. It was hard for me to capture the intensity of the luster on this coin, but there is plenty of it, on the fields and devices.
EDIT: I changed out the photos to capture it in natural light. I think this is more representative of the coin, without the drastic color changes of the direct iridescent light.1909-D-Indian-Half-Eagle.-You-Vs.-NGC

Interesting Joseph7420. I happen to have an ex NGC AU-55 1909-D in my indian half eagle collection. So it gave me an opportunity to do direct comparison pictures.
NGC AU-55 on the left. Coin in question on the right.

Could be low MS but there seems to be a lot of chatter on the coin, so I'd be more inclined to think that was from light circulation,The coin in question has more luster apparent I think, but the chatter is consistent. So MS60 or MS61? The incuse series of Indians can be a very tough coin to grade without being in one's hand. The added luster and areas around the ear feather ornament seem to be a touch more defined on the new piece. The chatter could come from knowing around in a bag with other coins rather than circulation, in this series it's usually all about rub spots or luster. A tough call on this coin, quite educational too.

You all were tough on this one. There is chatter but my camera exagerates it. NFC says 63.

Not too surprising, as I said educational, and a really tough series to grade from a photograph. Nice grade by the way Johnny!

thanks for the grades and comments all. And yes, these guys are really hard to grade from photos. This one has a lot of little marks, but no big ones. $5 eagles are allowed more chatter than the average coin for a couple of reasons. a) because they are gold. b) because the fields are elevated much more than on excuse coins, so they are more prone to bag marks. Most MS-61s and 62s will have some luster, but lacking the full luster in both fields and devices this one has.
