Here is a quick question from a beginner.

Is a 'clad' coin the same as a 40% silver, or are they different?

40% silver halves are also called 'Silver clad' but no. Most often, a US 'clad' coin is a 65-present dime or quarter, or a 71-present half or dollar coin, with a copper core, nickel outer layer and no silver content.
