I'll go out on a limb here and say MS62 compared it to my own MS63 eagle, they were pretty compatible

As hard as I look at the reverse, I can't see any wear there. Neck, talons, wingtips all untouched. So, unless somebody figured out how to handle the coin on only one side, it's a Mint State example. I'll agree with epikur at MS62.

Slight loss of luster in the fields and perhaps a touch of wear on the hair bun and edge of the coronet. AU-58 seems fair.
I notice you got nice natural color in these photos, very different from the color result for the 1861 eagle you also posted. Were the same lighting and camera used for both coins?

I'm up in the MS arena: MS-62 seems right to me.

I am thinking AU-55 on this coin.

I'm a novice at coin collecting and grading. I'm trying to understand why some have graded this in the MS range. I see some wear. For instance: I see some wear along the rim (a dent, and some scuffing), or can this be attributed to 'bag wear'? I also see some nicks/scratches here: Now, this sort of minor nicking does seem like 'bag wear'. I don't mean to challenge anybody here, I'm just trying to learn to identify wear that is from circulation vs. the bag. I would have given this an AU55 due to some wear that I would have attributed to limited circulation, but otherwise a very nice looking coin. Thanks, Thurmond

The difference between high AU and MS grade is all about luster. Your photos show a coin with solid original luster in the protected areas between letters and stars. The luster is reduced in the open areas of the fields due to friction from handling (i.e., circulation). That is enough in my opinion to preclude any mint state grade.
The tiny nicks and edge hit are indeed contact marks from minor impacts and would not by themselves disqualify a coin as mint state.

Obvious signs of wear, AU-55.
