Ok, ok...so we all know that problem free examples of this coin with this much luster go for $5-10k....and with the upclose pictures, it clearly isn't problem free. But from arms distance, this tiny coin looks every bit of MS-63+ with monumental blasting cartwheels, and fully frosted devices!! I pulled it from an NGC slab, and she makes a great album coin! Its just what I wanted knowing, I couldn't be more pleased. thoughts?

What makes you say it's not problem-free? I don't own any pre-1933 gold and don't know much about 'em!

Has some nice die cracks on the reverse. Coin, overall is very appealing, and I agree, this doesn't belong in a NGC slab but in an album. I'm sure it looks very nice.

Abrasive scruffs on the obverse. Not sure if it was a cleaning attempt, but some of the scratches are a bit bigger and more scattered than the usual cleaning hairlines. NGC called it "damaged".....but on a coin that small, they don't really stand out when looking at the coin as a whole.

I don't really understand the preoccupation with albums on this board (everything Dansco!). I can't believe they provide much archival protection. Not that I'm a fan of Slabs either, but I'd feel better about my coins in 2x2's in archival pages in a 3 ring notebook. In fact, I moved all my stuff out of older Whitman albums into binders.

That said, outstanding coin. I hope that ragged looking album hole protects it...

Same. I like slabs because they they provide a guarantee on authenticity and grade while storing the coin is a relatively clean environemnt. But, they are so large and weird (Thats not the word but I don't know what it) that I prefer 2x2's for anything that I can afford to put in there. I don't have more than 10 slabs at any time while I have 1000's of 2x2's.

I definitely don't use albums for the same reasons that you have identified. I guess it's the older generation that's more into albums.

What I do leave in slabs are: Proofs, High-Grade coins (MS/PR-64 - MS/PR-70) or anything of significant value. Anything else is usually cracked out and put in 2x2's.

How about those die cracks! Wow. Even for a new collector like me to spot those, dang they just jump off the coin there! She's gorgeous.

Your gold collection continues to impress, johnny. Well done. I love the slanted 5s on these. And they sure are tiny, aren't they? Looking forward to the Stella or 1854-D $3 or 17xx gold I'm expecting next!

That clash is strong on the reverse, nice addition to your 7070! I am also working on the gold page, it will be a while though, the joy of collecting and breaking your wallet. LOL!

LOL, well the 1854-D or Stella isn't going to happen within my budget, unless I find one that has been run over by a freight train or something. This 1855 $1 was graded UNC details "damaged" by NGC. It has the luster of a MS-63+, which would cost over 10x what I paid for this damaged example(I'm in this at $650).

Beauty Johnny! I agree with the grade of UNC details, I don't see any die cracks in the photos, only clashing (which is spectacular) am I missing something?

That is a nice looking coin. I have problems grading these small gold coins.

*ahem* First time I see "L@@K Luster bomb RARE!!1" on ebay I'm going to know who to punch now.
