Can't tell. What do you think? The '9' looks suspicious to me. Sorry, I had two 1970's. This is the right one: Edited by nickpicker 04/18/2014 8:07 pm

Large date... On the small date the top of the "0" in the date is more aligned with the top of the"7".

Sorry guys, I had a couple of changes. Please look at the new picture on my original post. The nine has a distinct point and it looks like it could be pointing to the 7. Hard to tell.

Still a Large Date.
The "9" typically has a point and is curled more inward. Coop has some good examples. On google its easy to find a side by side comparison.

Quote: The nine has a distinct point and it looks like it could be pointing to the 7. Hard to tell. I do see the point on the 9, but it's from damage. When you look at the 7's top stroke and length below the "0", it's obviously a large date It's not just one thing, but several details to confirm a small date.

Yup the thing that catches my eye the most when I look at these are where the loop of the 9 is pointing on the 7.

It makes it easier if you just concentrate on the 7, period. It's position and also the non shelf like horizontal bar.
