Maybe, not entirely sure...if you have been reading any of my posts you know these are all recently discovered items that haven't been touched 1or even taken out in decades

How can you tell a high relief from a low relief?

Polishing and cleaning coins were common practice decades ago. Added on that, Because grandma must have been an accumulator, I assume she cleaned and polished some of them so "they will be good-looking" without the "tarnish"when you inherit them.
Most certainly this was polished. A coin with XF details simply don't have this kind of shine. It's not high relief either.

In my research I have read about the many variations of this coin in this year... could the finish have something to do with that?

Low-relief proof
High-relief proof
I think.
The example posted shows low-relief business strike.
