I have several quarter eagles with more details on the wing then this one but it was graded XF by the dealer I purchased it from. What do you think? Is it XF or VF? What value would you place on it? (Not looking to sell, just wondering)

I'd grade it right between pretty and really pretty (Not capable of grading these)

Looks like a lot of wear on the wing, weird since the rest of the coin is much nice, also what looks to be a nasty rim hit on the obverse. I'd total it to AU-Details.

Hey I am VERY surprised I am getting AU's. Is it the head dress that makes you say that?

The back is more worn then my other "XF" coins- but now that I look at the others, the obverse of this one does have more detail then the others.

Coins don't just wear on one side. Therefore, if one side appears more "worn" than the other, alternate reasons should be explored for the difference. Below AU, I'm expecting headdress detail to be disappearing. So, perhaps this is not the best of strikes, but I don't know enough about the series to form a solid opinion.

Except that this one's an easy XF, and maybe AU.

too nice for a mere XF. I'd say AU-50.

Does the rim ding at 10 o'clock impact the grade?

I don't know this series well enough to speculate on a numerical grade.
