I found this Morgan a little while ago and it was with a bunch of other Morgans of various conditions. Right away the detail and the impressive mirrored surfaces that have a golden (and purple-ish in some spots) tone caught my eye. Could this possibly be a circulated proof that somehow entered circulation WAY back or do I have a run of the mill PL Morgan? I tried to get as many photos as I could that could show its surfaces (see if you can see the button I used and also used my finger) as well as its color.

EDIT: Somehow my photos got turned vertical. I'll be fixing those.

There is a discussion ongoing over at VAMWorld on the subject of Proof Morgans. Without conclusive die markers it would be a tough call to make.

Not on this date particularly, but still interesting subject.

Here is the listing for the 1886-P Proof VAM 15 hopefully you can use the diagnostics to match up your coin.

Coin appears to be proof-like but I cannot say for sure.

Thanks westcoin. I took some close-ups and blew them up on the computer and I'm not seeing them matching up. Darn! I was hoping for a score.
Rest in Peace

A coin struck from the proof dies would have the dash under the second 8. If not the VAM15 proof, what VAM is it?

Very nice looking Morgan, btw.
