16-coin IHC lot: 191142667975Judging by the bids, I can only guess a few others spotted the variety (it's pretty obvious)--anyone here? Still, I think the hammer price is decent, considering you might sell the other coins to get back a few bucks. Given recent bidding on varieties, I didn't really think I'd win the lot for just north of $30 Big image blowup--what variety do you see? Edited by DVCollector 04/24/2014 5:29 pm

Yep--it's the second one I've found in an ebay lot.

Awesome grab DVC. Roughly 2 dollars a coin. Not bad at all.

Thanks--that's what I figured too--a few coins have some collector value left.

This is one variety that I cannot come up with a logical explanation as to how it occurred. Maybe the guy with the date punch was a little tipsy.

Yeah...I can see why you balked--most look like dug coins, detail grades at best. I can only guess why this smaller/poorer quality lot is going for more...the "1 in neck" is easier to spot. So I really lucked out on my end.

I got one of these in a similar group of coins on ebay a while back. The best part was finding a 1902 S-4 in VF that I didnt spot initially in the same lot. What are the odds?

Quote: This is one variety that I cannot come up with a logical explanation as to how it occurred. I can think of roughly a half-dozen that were punched in various spots on the neck, usually overlapping the fields. Perhaps they did it as a hardness test, thinking they could polish out the obvious parts? Of course, the '97 S-1 is so heavy there would be no way to remove it. I saw a green one today but people had overbid the lot. Good snag.

Raymo--yeah, Waxemm noticed that lot too: 331177787993Too bad about the heavy verdigris, that "1 in neck" was easily VF before it was buried. You're right about overbidding--I think the S-1 might be worth $5-10? Still fun to spot! Quote: The best part was finding a 1902 S-4 in VF that I didnt spot initially in the same lot. What are the odds? Wow--talk about great luck! I'm going to scrutinize this lot carefully for anything else.

These arrived--the '97 looks like a VG10. No other varieties that I can see.
