The only time I seem to find anything at spot or under is out of a bulk box or at an antique shop. In the past 2 months I have picked up about a dozen foreign silver coins (a Canadian dime, 2 Australian 3 Pence, some small Mexican and South Amer. silver coins, and a 1/4 Riyal) for .20 cents each and I bought a bag of 20 Mercury dimes at an antique shop for $9.00 total.

Is junk silver even worth 5% over spot , I mean its only like 40 to 90 percent silver, I have only bought the bullion 99.99 % stuff and really have not done the math on "junk" silver, I guess if you got it cheap enough like 10 percent under spot? I have a lots of bullion but no junk silver so I guess I am a noob when it comes to junk silver. Like how do you price it? By weight and then take 10 percent off the total for the non silver content and then that's the "spot value?
Then here is the melt/refining which would cost more since they would have to take out the 10% non silver or 60% depending on the ratio, just seems like a big hassle , why not just get the 99.99 % stuff?

For me the smartest way to get close to spot price is the long way round.
Spot price + pure silver coin + mintage numbers + very small mintage numbers + mailing cost + hunting for best price = A happy buyer!
But what do I know.......

For some, it's that the fear of counterfeits is just too great. Much less chance of that with the junk silver.

There was an opportunity over in CCF Auction / Buy It Now. (Selling Under Spot! Mexican Silver Coin Lot (6 pure oz)).
It went UNSOLD.

Local pawn shop sells junk silver coins for spot plus standard tax. Even got some nice Walkers for right at spot as well as Peace dollars from him.

I was buying one of his Peace dollars the other week and he did happen to mention that he only paid $10 for it and I pretty much got it for spot so he wasn't making a lot from it. I do try to get whatever he has whenever I check in. Being that he has really good prices it's hit and miss on what he has because everyone else buys it up quick as well.
