Good Morning All,
I have a strange 1970D that I can't seen to find info on. It has no designer initials and the reverse has all sorts of issues. How would you describe this one? Just struck through or something else?
Thanks Much,
Deb

The die the coin was struck with is mostly at fault. It is in the VLDS range of it's life. When you look at the devices that face the rim, the areas of the tops of the devices show extreme Die Deterioration. Thus the edge of the device near the rim is almost gone. Sometimes it flows into the rim area. This is what happens when the die wears out. There is also a die gouge/dent on the area above the "FG" area. The "FG" also is washed out because of the die wear. The tops of the letters on ONE CENT is part of the design for a few years.

Thanks Coop. I found a 1943 DDR in this collection that I'm going to post! I also need some help figuring out the RPM on a 55 I will post. The more I look the better I'm getting at recognizing. Deb

That is the way it works. You will get to the point where something is too minor and then realize: "I'm looking too hard." Then you dial it back a little. On the 1955-D It looks like you still have the glare issue with these images. The problem is that the glare (Which is like looking into the sun) covers what you want to show. The first image is better. But I'll have to look to see if I can find a match. Often the tilted RPMs are too minor to list. This maybe the case. I post on that thread when I find out something.

You're Great!! Thanks Much and I am working on lighting as you recommended but can't quite get the right filter. I'll keep plugging away.

Depending on your light source, it can be done different ways that can be inexpensive. So post an image of the setup and I'll see if I can figure out a quick fix.

My set up is very unconventional. I have a halogen table light that I can direct down and just hold the coin. I put an opaque foam shade below to defuse the light but I may have to go to something heavier. I am making good with what I have because ultimately I want to sell all the good stuff and not spend money on set up. Thank you for your help though.
