First post... but I can't believe my luck. Just bought 4 MS65 1885 O Morgans from a guy who has had them for almost 20 years.(1) 3.5) rattler and a green label(4.0) (old) with #s starting to the left of the bar code. Both display a beutiful Morgan MS dare I say ..maybe MS66 with a crack out and re grade. Would really like opinions..will put up picture whe I get that figured out.edit thanks bobby131313..going to get my daughter to help. Edited by Morganpeace11 04/29/2014 8:38 pm

There's no such thing as an 1850 O morgan. Did you mean... 1850-O Seated dollar? 1885-O Morgan?

The first year for Morgans was 1878, if yours are before that then they're fake and since you say they are certified the slabs must be fake because a TPG would recognize them as fake right away.

For me, the more valuable coin has little to do with the label. It's all about the coin inside. But, I do love those old rattlers.

Dave 700x..It's a MS 65 PCGS 1885o Morgan dollar. It's so nice that it could be a MS66 that was graded strictly, the holder just dates the time line ie Dec 89, early on when grading was tougher.Have a look, google kijiji ontario and then enter MS65 Morgan silver dollar. I have all I need

Welcome to Coin Community. Always nice to see a new Morgan guy among us. We're not talking about a huge value either way here - 1885-O in 66 counts a pop of over 6,000 between PCGS and NGC; it's a $300-350 coin. Of course, that's a jump from a 65 which is probably a <$200 coin even with a CAC sticker. The trouble with rattlers is you have to reach a targeted audience and find a little bit of luck to realize any premium for them. Not all collectors know about, or subscribe to, the mystique surrounding rattlers. The sharper among them realize that the vast majority of undergraded rattlers have already been cracked, and they're not universally undergraded. I'll await pics before rendering a firm opinion, but my gut reaction would be to recommend leaving it in the rattler and maybe getting it to CAC. You get a gold bean on it, then we can talk.

Hi guys...Have not had one opinion yet... many visits in the last 24 hrs. It would be helpful to have experienced coin grading opinions on if these two coins could be MS66.Seems kinda quiet... is there a problem?

Need a little better pictures - to see detail.
Believe the luster is there, no doubt.
First Morgan - hair is a little flat by the ear and above. Couple too man marks on the cheek.
Second - VERY nice obverse, reverse just a touch weaker than the 1st.
Personally, I would NOT regrade. Send to CAC. If GOLD sticker applied, these will command the MS66 grade. Leave these holders alone and intact.
