Are the dime, quarters, and half in these sets silver or clad? You'd expect them to be silver because it's a deluxe set, but in photos I've seen, they look like clad.

I just took a peek at the COA on my 2005 American Legacy set. Tragically (as you suspected), everything is clad save the two medals (Marine Corps & Chief Justice John Marshall), which are 90%.

I assume the others are the same.

I was afraid of that. I was thinking of picking up some, but not so sure now. They are scarce, but I think I see why. Cutting the silver content in half in 2008 must have lost the last few faithful collectors.

What do you mean by that?

The 2005, 2006, and 2007 sets had two silver commemoratives, but the 2008 only had one.

The 1995 Prestige proof set only contained 1 silver coin which was the silver dollar. The Civil War half was clad.

The 1996 Prestige set also had one silver coin which was the dollar. The soccer half was clad.

The 1997 only had the silver dollar.

The only silver commem half included in a Prestige set was the 1993 Bill of Rights.

I'm referring to the much less popular American Legacy sets Got the dates totally wrong. Corrected above.

I should have paid closer attention too I knew you meant the Legacy sets but when I saw the 1995, 1996 and 1997 years my first thought was the prestige proofs sets.

I was going to order the commems from the US Mint in 2005 then the Legacy set was announced so I decided to wait until it came out. Well, I forgot about ordering it and the read that it sold out.

I didn't bother ordering the 2006, 2007 or 2008 sets.

The only thing I find appealing is the scarcity. Otherwise, it's really not that nice of a presentation. The size differences also make it difficult to store. If I can find them cheap enough, I may get a set. Otherwise, I think I'll pass.

@OldSkool - They are indeed big. They are so big that they don't get a spot in my safe. I'm looking for the 06 and 08 sets as I missed ordering them when they were offered retail. Haven't found any in the price range I'm willing to pay on the 'Bay. I only check every once in a while though. Looks like the recent completed sales have gone for:

06: 32 have sold since 3/1/2014 at an average of $71.
08: 16 have sold since 3/1/2014 at an average of $103.
