I have a loupe that uses 3 LR-1130 button cell batteries and was looking into buying them in bulk from Amazon.

I had read something a while ago about the "New" batteries being old stock past the sell by date and half or more were dead.

Should I bite the bullet and buy local new batteries or roll the dice on bulk and maybe never have to buy another battery for my loupe?

According to my roommate (he builds and designs batteries) the older the battery is the less likely you will have long lasting performance, the storage of batteries should be cool, heat will cause them to discharge more rapidly as well. So always try and get the freshest batteries you can. Button cell batteries generally store better than standard AAA, AA, C & D cel batteries.

Also wipe them good before placing them into your item, don't touch them on either side as finger oils can cause them to lessen output.

with the above statement. I change watch batteries and try and keep my stock fresh. occasionally I will open a less often used battery from a single pack (new but on shelf maybe a year)and the battery tests @less than 1.5V

for your button cell LR-1130, you can also use the 389 button cell,SR1130W from energizer which is a high drain battery or 390 button cell SR1130SW which is a low drain.( they are the same dimensions 11.6 mm in diameter and 3.1 mm in height as your LR-1130.

I prefer energizer over the others, been changing batteries over 24 years now.

Just my opinion.
