Mike Byers (Seller) is a very respected coin dealer, he deals in pretty much all high end stuff, and his errors are some of the wildest stuff out there! I've lusted after a couple of 2 cent piece errors he has had for decades now. A huge broad struck and a double stuck. He also authored the book the 100 greatest mint error coins. I'd say he doesn't sell many coins through ebay but rather through private sales. If I was in the position to purchase one of his coins on ebay, I'd call hi up directly and do the deal where ebay wasn't involved saving us both a lot of $$$. He lists coins on ebay (as do many high end dealers, like Legend, Rare Coin Wholesalers, Steve Estes, etc.) for promotional reasons, I would think.

I am sure he is a straight up and up dealer. Love a man strong enough, smart enough, and solvent enough to HOLD a possession (a coin?) ... until he gets his price. Then there is the other side of the coin. Pun intended. My beloved Father said: try to avoid-refrain from buying stuff, from a much-much-much wealtheir person. I think he was right ... in every instance ... he just really does not need my pitifully small cash. But when you must ... gracefully plan to do a lot of sucking up, be polite ... just let him win.

ebay fees are capped at $250, making ebay a very effective place to list expensive coins. Paypal fees, on the other hand, are not capped.

How does the PP fee get dealt with? I assumed it was part of the ebay fee.

Quote:How does the PP fee get dealt with? I assumed it was part of the ebay fee. 2.5% to the seller usually - if I'm not mistaken. $1,500,000 would be a lot even if they capped it or lowered the rates after a certain amount. Any large coin dealer, would probably prefer to do the deal outside of ebay anyways, and any deal in this amount would rarely be for cash, most likely bank transfer, partial trade, and a loan or finance deal taken out by the buyer. There aren't many people that can just cut a check for $1.5 million, I know a couple (one of my old coin buddies did the SS Central deal, and even then it was through a consortium of dealers.

Paypal's cut would be something like $37,500. A veritable drop in the bucket. Byers has had this one for a while; I found a sale offer from 2013. He's waiting for his price, and eventually he'll get it.
