hey guys, I've been on the fence about getting my first ancient roman coins for a while now and I've finally decided to take the plunge.
that being said, I found a seller but I want to see if you guys think its authentic before buying.

Warren Esty is a member of this forum and a well known authority on ancient coins. You can feel confident that any coin that he has for sale is 100% genuine.

Is this actually Warren Esty or is the website called "Esty"?

This seller is listed as "lantique1" and ships from Latvia. Warren lives in Montana.

Here's the link to his website:

The coins look OK to me, by the way.

Yeah, that's not "Warren Esty," it's a store on a site called " Etsy" (note the spelling!) that may or may not be reliable. This one sets off some alarm bells for me so I'd avoid, although I definitely can't say for certain whether it's real or not.

I've though they were the same. Hopefully Warren will be along to clear this up.

They're definitely not the same. One is Warren Esty and the other is a website called Etsy. Etsy is a website where people can set up their own store, sort of like ebay but with a focus on handcrafted things and just storefronts; no bidding.

I know little to nothing about determining if a coin is real or a fake, but Etsy.com would be a huge red flag to me because the site is essentially artists, making me think this could be someone with a unique ability doing replicas.

I wouldn't say Etsy is any more a red flag than ebay. Just because most people on there are crafters doesn't mean this guy is, or that he makes fake coins. I don't know anything about the seller though, so I don't know if he does make fakes, intentionally sell fakes, or not know enough about them and accidentally sell fakes, and that's why I only order from a couple sources who's knowledge and expertise I trust.

The fees on Etsy are lower than ebay.
