Had this one for a while. What do you think about the grade?
Obverse has bluish and purple toning and the reverse has red around the rims and orange in the fields. I don't know how it was stored before it came into my collection.

Coin has a slight die rotation.

It's actually pretty unusual. The lettering on the edge is messed up, I'm assuming it's because of the pretty obvious 20-30 degree die rotation.

Problems with the edge lettering are rather common. The lettering was applied in a separate process on a Castaing machine so I doubt it had anything to do with the rotation.

I have never seen toning on coin this circulated. Maybe it is AT?

I'd ask if you have ruled out the possibility of its being a contemporary counterfeit, by both weight and specific gravity. Added to the discrepancies you've described, a variance in either from the norm would be pretty conclusive.

No, I haven't. My scale is at a different house right now and I don't own any other CBHs.

I think it was circulated, then stored somewhere that toned it. Doubt it's the other way around.
That would be sad to find out that it is ATd.

Usually toning like this on a circulated coin arises from a dip and retone. However, this coin doesn't really look dipped, at least not in a long time.....so I am guessing it is from a really old dip. I like toning on circ coins, as long as it doesn't look too dipped out, and I think a TPG would grade it problem free. I dont think it will add or subtract from resale value.
