I finally made the deal with a dealer I know to buy his hoard of 1944 Henning nickels. He is sending me 79 Henning nickels. I already looked over 77 of them recently but I still can't wait to study them closer and check out the 2 newer coins. I don't know the exact quantity but I already have about 70 so this will more than double my own hoard.

Congratulations! That's a difficult to find treasure. I've been trying but I haven't been able to find a single one that someone wants to sell. Quote: I still can't wait to study them closer and check out the 2 newer coins I'm sure we'd all love to hear what you see when you've had a chance to examine them. Who knows, maybe you'll see something new that can help us recognize one someday.

Wow ... congratulations! I recall your valued and insightful contributions to my thread years ago discussing identification tests for Hennings. You are now likely the owner of the largest hoard of Henning in existence. Looking forward to any insights you might share after examining the new coins. David

pyrbob, After studying all of these 'nickels' it would be a gift to collectors everywhere if you shared your findings. It feels good to share knowledge.

Quote: it would be a gift to collectors everywhere if you shared your findings. pyrbob contributed exceptional knowledge of the Henning nickels in a Sept 2009 post that I mentioned above: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=53117Hoping not to steal the new thread ... truly referencing the prior thread in the spirit of humbling acknowledging prybob exceptional contributions towards our collective knowledge of this interesting and valued counterfeit. Contributions which were valuable in the past continue to be so now and in the future. These 'gems' should not be forgotten. I just viewed the 2009 post. David, had you not resurrected the original I would not known that it existed. Thank you. Awaiting an updated evaluation. 140 examples should be enough for a definitive essay.

Incredible. I'm also jealous. More or less that you have even 1 of them but over 140?! wow. Congrats.

Thanks everyone. I will post observations as I find them. The fun is on hold for now. My wife and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary this weekend at Rehoboth Beach. I will post some pics next weekend.
