This is actually the first classic coin I've ever bought.

I think it has been polished. I've never seen a Peace dollar that shiny.

Maybe it's the photos, but the surfaces look a bit unnatural. I'd go with MS details.

I agree. Surfaces looks weird and there are a lot of breaks in luster. I'd say MS-Details Polished.

I only have one Peace dollar too just to have one even though I only collect classic coins outside of my Grandfather's Whitman books and roll finds. I find that Morgan's are generally more desirable by most people buying them. That is just my experience selling a few on ebay.

Hard to break it, but the first classical coin you purchased.....is unfortunately polished.
Compare the 1926-S peace you have with some other AU~MS Peace dollar photos. You will realize that your coin doesn't have the "cartwheel" luster of a non-polished coin. When you see the coin in direct sunlight, you will see the small hairline scratches all over the surface, indicating that it's polished.
I definetely see some wear on Liberty's hair, so I'd grade it AU details.

What do ya'll think it would go for on auction website?

Curious because most of the Peace dollars I see that are shiny and ms graded are priced several hundred dollars.

Need better pics to grade. I think your white balance is a bit off. What did you pay for your coin?I don't think it would grade MS like the one you linked to on ebay.

Yes, they are both "shiny."
But, your coin and the hundreds of MS Peace dollars that sell for hundreds of dollars have different origin to its "shininess."
If you look at the MS one you linked to, it has a luster that was there since it was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1926. That's something called cartwheel luster, which is the type of luster you see on most MS silver dollars. carwheel luster will have a frosted look, and will not be reflective.
If you look at your 1926-S however, it has a shine that wasn't there when it was minted - it is the result of polishing an AU coin to make it look shinier/ look like MS. You will see that the whole "shine" of the coin is a totally different kind than the slabbed peaces with cartwheel luster especially if two are placed side by side. You will also find it reflective and mirrorlike, which is not normal for AU peaces. If you look at your coin under direct sunlight, you will see hairlines (small scratches all over) - a tell-tale sign of polishing.

Because it is a polished AU, it'd be around $20~25 dollars.
The ones with original mint luster and MS will go for hundreds.

I've watched many in what appears to be this same condition go for $60 or more on ebay. This one was at $38 and I outbid by for dollars. My lcs told me it could go for $85. They said they thought it had been "cleaned". I didn't ask what they would pay me for it, but I believe they would have gone up to $50 if I'd asked.

Peace dollars are rarer than morgans. Finding one with luster that isn't cleaned or polished for less than several hundred dollars is, from what I understand, increasingly rare.
