Another pic of "B", my digital microscope is cooperating today. And I notice what appears may be doubling of the "6", tip and left side of the upper tail?  |

You're right and odd thing is the variations appear much more evident when posted on this thread than when spread all over my computer screen. Okay, so who's next? There must me more than me here with a small but varied stash of King George VI 50c varieties. |

AgCoinAu, you've posted excellent photos of the Hoof Through 6 Variety. The series of three, that of the earliest stage, is quite similar to my photo below with a die chip in the corner of the 6. This isn't the exact one however, the placement of the die chip is slightly different. Zoell R447a - flatback 9, narrow date, 6/6 with die chip.  Zoell R447b 6/6 but no die chip.  |

Was awhile ago.. but yeah... was looking forward to revisiting these coins as well ... It was from this thread that I met Paul and my education of 50 cent pieces really flourished... Right now on my desk I've got well over 200 50cent pieces all organized by dates and I'm working at improving upon my photo "area" as well.... So I will get on the 46's soon but there's a lot of follow up I'd still like to do on the 45's... Paul shocked me when he said one of my 45's was a 4/4 and I never even noticed it... so I'm going to take some more photos and look at ALL of the 45's again.. I may have missed some which I originally thought were vanilla now may have a different variety!

Wow, we'll all look forward to any interesting varieties that you find. I agree with you 100%. There's a good level of interest in .50c and this forum is very fortunate that we have Paul as our go-to expert. When I first began sorting through my 50c collection my goal was simply to find a wide and narrow date for the applicable years. How deep one pursues other varieties is only limited by personal choice. |

What is meant by a 6/6? Here is mine. Just a wide date 46 I think  |

When the date digit was entered into the die it was done with several hammer strikes to the 6 punch. It took several blows and if the 6 was not lined up properly on one of the blows then one of the 6's or a portion of the 6 are doubled in appearance. 6/6 is jus an easy way of saying double punched 6 or repunched 6, In the exam[le above , although hard to see the bottom of the 6 is doubled hence the 6/6.
