I was just looking at some of my State Quarters and saw that this one has a strange rim with extra metal as you can see from the photograph.

It doesn't appear to be squashed at all and the edge is normal.

Is this classed as an error, and if so what type?

Thanks

Possible Cud. You shouldn't hold a coin like that. You are going to pout a big ole fingerprint on it. The oils on your hands will leave stains.

Yes, it's a Cud.
A Cud error is made when a part of the die that touches the rims break off from the die, and coins are struck using the damaged die.

laminations are interesting but don't add value to a coin. If the lam is on a key date, it will often lower the demand for it, and thus the value.
