I got a large cent 1859 which I want to remove green deposit on it. What are the proper way to put the coin in a acetone bath?

-How much time I should leave it there?
-When I remove to coin from the bath, do I need to put the coin in fresh water to remove acetone?

Thanks!

Don't merely use fresh water.....use sterile or pure water not just tap water, due to the chemical additives

Don`t use water at all, acetone evaporates very quickly ad completely, after the the initial acetone bath rinse the coin by dipping in clean acetone.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

It really doesn't matter... you can let it soak for as long as you want... it won't do anything to the coin

From the description it sounds like verdigris does it not? Especially since it is a large cent. I thought acetone wouldn't do anything to verdigris? Organic solvent on inorganic material.

Wouldn't VerdiChem be a better option?

It could be PVC damage.. if it's green and gunky.... but otherwise It may be verdigris in which case acetone won't help

I wouldn't leave in acetone for more than a day. I've seen some silver coins discolor to a slight darker tint when soaked too long.

Fellow CCF member BadThad has created a product that might help. Not sure if it can be shipped to Canada.
