There were from the same die. All coins will look like that until they clean out the grease from that die.

so....what year will we call a dime with out the last number?

just assume all dimes with out the last number are 2007's?
they are not rare because of it? I'm confused as to what is a error and what is not a error
or if its an error at all...

The one I posted is a 2000. I know because I got it in 2000 and it was my first P cent. So I remember that year as the last of the century coins.

coop, you just added to my confusion.
if you were to sell that coin, what year would you assign to it? never mind that you KNOW its a 2000
a buyer is not going to believe you..am I right?

35 years ago, when I was an apprentice plumber
I was the most hard headed appt. you ever met.
then one day, a light came on and it all clicked
I guess I am going to have to wait on that light again

I just know the year I found it. I can't prove it other than that. Value? Probably nothing extra.

i guess that is what is confusing me..I thought that if a coin was different. if it has an error. it was worth more than face value.
it seems that is true, but only for certain list of errors
and what I want to know..is what that "list" is.
so far.it seems that it only pertains to double dies errors
not grease errors and not a coin that is thinner on one side than the other.
I have a lot to learn my friend.
and when I tell you this your going to reach threw the screen and slap me

when we were clearing out my Moms house after her death
we had a yard sale. I sold a collection of red coin books to a 12 year old girl for 2 dollars for 10 from 195or 60 something till present
then I started into this and am kicking my self in the rear end....oh well...hope she uses them

Variety coins are different than error coins. Variety coins are RPMs, Over mint marks, Over dates (19th century coins) doubled dies.
Error coins are collectable if they are not common. Usually in my definition they are one of a kinds. Just part of a normal run that created that one coin that is different.
Brockage, broadstrike, mirrored broadstrikes, wrong planchets, double strikes, triple strikes, capped dies strikes, deep die caps, off center strikes, incomplete planchets, type 1 blanks, type 2 planchets, shattered die strike, very strong die clashes, Cuds, clam shell separations, bonded planchets, chain strikes, mated pairs, split planchets before strike or after strike, low pressure strikes, mules, partial collar, Rolled thin or thick planchets, rotated dies, heavy Struck Through Grease errors.

Collectors often call/look for things that are common, but are actually die aging. Like cracks, chips, Cuds, ETC.

ohhhhhhhhh..ok,common every day errers like the 2 dimes I have...clearly common, or I would not have had 2
but a broken die or worn die would not be common...ok.i am slow, but given time I will catch up
i was not on a short yellow bus..but the long one did not have far to go..
thanks for explaining

If the dime was a was minted from a Grease Filled Die and missing all the words it would be more interesting. Missing one number happens quite frequently. Supply and demand drives what something is worth.

Frodo, I hear what you're saying. When I started collecting, I found dimes that looked just like yours and I got all excited too! Then I started finding more that looked the same and thought if I'm finding this many then everyone else is too. It seems to me that the small size of the dime lends itself to lots of coins with either missing or blurred "IN" "WE" or the last number in the date. I also see lots of slightly off center strikes in dimes (at least more than the other denominations), which when I was brand new to coins, looked like a big deal, but in reality are pretty common. Like the others mentioned, if more of the coin were missing, then you might have something there, but it would have to be significant. Keep hunting and you're sure to find some interesting things! :)
