Bought some junk silver and this was in it. I guess I should scrutinize common date junk silver more carefully in the future. What do you think, modern or contemporary counterfeit?

Looks legit to me, just damaged.

Needs to be checked for comparative ring tone against a genuine 90% quarter with comparable wear,
and for weight against the same genuine coin.

Looks real, just damaged. Maybe the corrosion and subsequent harsh cleaning are making the details look off?

The coin looks genuine.
I agree that this was corroded and subsequently harshly cleaned.
If it is the pitted surfaces that looks questionable, that's because of the damage it went through.
