I recently purchased this coin on ebay. I know it has had a light cleaning in the past. I fell in love with it when I saw it and at the price I got it for, I am extremely happy. Thanks for your time!

I weighed it and got 13 grams. My scale only does whole numbers. The diameter is slightly larger than that of an 1838 half that I have, but that half is very worn.

Something doesn't look right here. I don't think it's authentic. Hair throws me off, looks too noodly. Obverse denticles look unusual... Details look too muted.
The fact that it's slightly larger in diameter makes this even more questionable. I don't think a well worn coin's diameter should be a good bit smaller than a slightly worn version, though I'm not too sure.
Just doesn't seem right in my eyes, but I hope I'm wrong for you.

Take it into your local coin shop, they should be able to help determine its authenticity. Doesn't look bad to me other than its toning. That could be from cleaning.

My problem is I don't have a local coin shop. The closest one is an hour away and I am working full time this summer. I feel like some of the questionable features and diameter variability came from the fact that this was the first full year of the steam press and the mint hadn't quite figured things out yet. What is something else I can do?

Now that I have taken a closer look at it, I also am questioning it's authenticity. Look on photograde to see what Bust halves in this grade should look like.

I see no reason to question authenticity. XF40( details if you say its cleaned, but I dont see obvious cleaning in the photos).
